4 Ways the Sun Will Improve Your Health

There is something about summertime that makes you more productive, happier and just all around ready to take on the world. We all love the warmth, and the bright sunshine; it brings a whole new level of ambition and happiness to our lives. The level of sunshine during the summertime, physically makes us feel better. We all love it, and although some of us enjoy winter sports, we all are secretly sad when the sun leaves us and winter rolls around again.

Why is that?

The heat is wonderful to some of us, but the main reason as to why we feel better during the summer is the sun giving us those extra doses of vitamin D. And here are a few health benefits that come along with it:

  • Vitamin D Fights the Blues

There have been studies done that link Vitamin D deficiency to depression and some other mental disorders as well. So all of that ambition and energy that comes with the sunshine might not actually just be in your head.

  • Vitamin D Improves Bone Health

This vitamin is essential in helping your body to absorb calcium, and calcium is essential for bone development and strength. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, you may lose significant bone density if you are vitamin D deficient.

  • Vitamin D Can Help Your Immune System

Absorbing your daily dose of Vitamin D can actually help your body fight infections and help prevent sicknesses like influenza.

  • Vitamin D Can Help Prevent Cancer

This one, I am sure, will raise a lot of questions because we are all told how UV exposure increases the risk of cancer; but, according to the NCBI, there have been studies proving that maintaining healthy vitamin D levels will help prevent some of the vital organ cancers and also lower the death rate in existing cancer patients.

So go outside and soak in these extra boosts of vitamin D this summer. And, if your skin burns easy or you are worried about pre-mature aging, and you can’t enjoy the benefits of absorbing your vitamin D, talk to your doctor and see if there is a supplement that can help!

Hope you are all having a fantastic summer vacation!
