How to Make the Most of Summer
People around here love fall. I like it too. It’s really beautiful, but it also means winter is coming. I don’t like winter at all. I’m much more of a summer girl. I live for summer. I wait for it all year long, and I get so excited when it finally comes. I try to take full advantage of the summer because I know it won’t last. Stores are already starting to sell school supplies, and if I looked hard enough I could probably find some stores selling Christmas stuff already. It stresses me out just thinking about it. Instead of getting all stressed out and anxious about summer ending, let’s make the most of the time we have left.
There are a lot of ways to enjoy the summer. These are some of my favorites.
1. Be Active
There are so many fun, active things to do outside.
Hiking-challenge yourself with a new trail, a faster pace, a longer hike
Biking-join a group, ride to the park, commute to work and back
Running-sign up for a race, try a new route, find a running group
Walking-go around the neighborhood after dinner, walk the kids to the park, visit your neighbors
Sports-sign up for a softball or soccer league, play tennis, play catch with the kids
2. Relax
As much fun as it is to be active in the summer, sometimes it’s nice to relax.
Plan a day at the lake or even better the beach.
Spend the day laying by the pool.
Sit out on the porch swing
Read a book on a blanket at the park.
Take a nap in a hammock.
Eat dinner outside.
3. Socialize
One of my favorite parts of summer is spending time with friends and family. Friends and neighbors are out and about which is always fun.
Meet friends at the park (with or without kids)
Plan a neighborhood or street BBQ
Have a picnic with your kids and their friends.
Invite your neighbors over for lawn games
Set up a lemonade stands and advertise to your friends and neighbors
I need to work on doing some of these myself. What are your favorite ways to enjoy summer?
