Staying Connected While Socially Distant

Social distancing is an effective way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and while it is here to for the foreseeable future, that doesn’t mean we can’t all stay connected to our friends and family. In fact, some might say they are more connected than ever because they have had to be more intentional and creative when planning virtual interactions with those they care about. We’ve been wondering what people are doing to stay connected during these times, so we asked our members and staff to share their favorite ways to stay connected in a socially distant world.

Game Night

Believe it or not, you can host a virtual game night using apps like Houseparty and Zoom. Just make sure everyone has the same game and an internet connection and you’re good to go.

Movie Night

Binge watch your favorite movies and shows with your loved ones using Netflix Party or Amazon Prime Video Watch Party. Real time comments will make it feel like they are in the room with you as you watch.

Virtual Book Club

Don’t let your book club dissolve because you can’t physically be together! Jump on Zoom, grab some wine and cheese, and discuss this month’s book. Keep it as a recurring invite so it’s always on the calendar to keep it going every month.

Socially Distanced Park Picnic

Grab a camping chair, a blanket, your favorite picnic meal, and sit in a park, 6 feet apart of course, to get outdoors and catch up.

Write Letters (or emails)

Master the art of written communication and organize a pen pal group. This can be within your existing friends and family or you could meet new people through the written word. Sites like Compatipal can connect you with people from all over the world and matches you to pen pals based on topics that interest you both.

Even with social distancing you can continue to nurture, and even grow, the relationships that are important to you.
