REPORTS TO: District Manager
DIRECT REPORTS: Member Experience Lead, Fitness Team Lead, Group Fitness Team Lead, Maintenance Team Lead


FLSA Status: Salary

The General Manager is responsible for driving performance that results in all financial targets and KPI’s being achieved, or ideally, exceeded in their club. They achieve this by building and developing a high-performing team who support our Members in achieving their fitness goals while enjoying a world-class experience every visit.
The deliverables for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Build and develop a high performing team. This deliverable involves establishing a culture within the team that adheres to our core values and drives accountability. The GM is responsible for attracting, hiring, coaching and maximizing the engagement of the management team for their club. The GM is expected to provide support to their peers and to positively contribute to the overall success of their area and region.
  • Identifies and Exceeds Member Expectations: Upholds VASA’s Member Guiding Principles. Is able to identify a Guest or Member need by utilizing the tools provided by VASA and asking thoughtful questions. Is knowledgeable about VASA products and Membership offerings and can provide Guest or Members with the best option based on where they are at in their fitness journey. Teaches, Coaches and Inspires Team Members to do the same and exceed Guest and Member expectations.
  • Upholds Operational Excellence: This deliverable involves ensuring our Members receive a consistent friendly greeting; all equipment is fixed as quickly as possible; the club is sparkling clean; and all operational standards are executed flawlessly. This includes leveraging existing tools, resources, programs, and framework to achieve operational excellence.
  • Drive performance that results in all financial targets and KPI’s being achieved, or ideally, exceeded. Manages and achieves overall membership sales, member retention, fitness sessions sold, and services targets for all other established KPI’s. This includes managing operating costs by overseeing labor and equipment expenses without sacrificing the needs of our Members. The GM achieves results by identifying fitness club growth opportunities and creating and communicating plans to achieve goals.


The qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • 3+ years’ experience leading high performing teams
  • Ability to work full time including variable hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership skills, the ability to coach and mentor Team Members with professional maturity.
  • Applicable and transferable experience ideally from the fitness, retail or restaurant industries
  • Bachelor’s degree or applicable work experience
  • Experience working in the in the fitness industry
  • Degree in Exercise Science, Business Management, or related field
